Mar 19, 2009, 6:07 AM | Article By: Sainabou Kujabi

The Darling U-17 will today open their 8th African Cadet Championship campaign against West African counterparts, Guinea Conakry, in Algeria.

The young Scorpions recently in Banjul defeated Guinea 2 - 0 in a pre-championship friendly. Could they now repeat that result or even better?

The Young Sylli Nationals of Guinea booked their qualification for Algeria for the fourth time in the African Under 17 Championships after 1995 when they finished third with a bronze medal, 1999 and 2005.

As title holders in 2005, The Gambia and 2003 winners Cameroon, have been rated on the continental football governing body (CAF), website as possible challengers to the crown.

The game is expected to kick off local time.

Host, Algeria, will take on Cameroon later in the day in the second Group A game.
