Gambia Vs Algeria: Jammeh grants early day for workers

Civil and public servants will close earlier than normal work schedule on Wednesday 29 February in the build-up to the Scorpions crucial game against Algeria.

A press release from the Ministry of Youth and Sports gives in detail what could be described as a positive move meant to encourage more fans and a cheering crowd for Wednesday’s game.

Below is the full text of the release:

The Gambia Football Association has applied to His Excellency the President to give Wednesday 29th February 2012 as a half day to allow Gambians and the public at large to turn up in their numbers to support the Scorpions, The Gambia’s National Team in their quest to qualify for 2013 African Cup of Nations match against Algeria.

His Excellency the President has decided to allow all civil servants and public servants to close work on Wednesday at 3:00pm to enable them go to the Independence Stadium to support the Scorpions in this crucial match.

All those closing work early are encouraged to go directly to the Independence Stadium and buy their tickets early as the match begins at 4.30 P.M. Support the team as the purpose of the early closure is to support the team.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports seizes this opportunity to thank H.E. the President of the Republic of The Gambia, and Chief Patron of the Gambia Football Association, Sheikh Professor Alhagie Dr Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, for his continued support as the number one fan of the Scorpions and urges all mosques and churches to pray for the victory of the National team.
