Vensian André, a French national, was recently
convicted and sentenced to a fine of D100,000, in default to serve one year in
prison, by Magistrate Malafi Jarju of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
This followed his change of plea from not guilty to guilty, for being in possession of arms and ammunitions.
Earlier, defence counsel Foster told the court that since the accused person’s documents were in the possession of the police and the prosecution was not ready to produce them, the accused person had no other option but to change his plea from not guilty to guilty.
In response, the police prosecutor, Sgt 2294 Lamin Jammeh, told the court that the only documents that were obtained from the accused person by the investigating officer were a black wallet, a residential card, a residential permit, a French passport and a mobile phone, all bearing the name of the accused person.
