The Gambia Volleyball Association is conducting a four-day training programme for young players and coaches, with the help of FIVB international volleyball instructor Mbye Deme, who also doubles as the director of Volleyball Development Centre of West Africa in
The training, which started last Friday, ended yesterday. Participated in by hundred young players, the training was conducted in three places, namely
Bai Dodou Jallow, secretary general of the Gambia Volleyball Association, said the training programme is called the Coaches Perfection and Technical Re-enforcement for young players, meant to help the coaches better in their job.
The training also develops young players, he noted, saying it is a five-year annual programme between the development centre and the Gambia Volley Ball Association.
The objectives of the training, he added, include developing volleyball from the grassroots to ensure the association has a solid volleyball teams that can compete in any international competition with other countries in
The programme targets children between the ages of 7 and 15 years as well as coaches that work with these children, he said.
He expressed gratitude to the people who participated in the training, while thanking the FIVB instructor Mbye Deme.
In his remarks on the occasion, Mbye Deme called on the Gambia Volleyball Association to keep up the good job.
He also commended the participants and coaches and encouraged them to continue helping young players.
Mr Deme as well donated balls and materials to the participants and volleyball academies.
