Gambia Limited yesterday presented prizes to the 2016 Super Nawettan champions
and others, at a ceremony held at the Gambia Football Federation Secretariat in
Gunjur received a cheque for D75, 000 as champions of the 2016 FiBank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan championship, whilst Banjul received a cheque for D50,000 as runners-up.
Serrekunda East received D30, 000 as third place holder; Sukuta received D15, 000 as fourth place holder.
Manjai were awarded the most disciplined team accolade; Sukuta fans club was awarded the best fans club accolade.
Gunjur’s creative midfielder Salifu Bojang alias Bapa received a giant trophy as the best player of the 2016 FiBank-sponsored Super Nawettan.
Banjul net-minder Ahmed Savage received gloves as the best goalkeeper; Banjul defender and captain Abdoulie Samba Abedi received a football boot as the best defender.
Gunjur midfielder Mbemba Fatty alias Andrea Iniesta received a football boot as the leading goal scorer.
Lamin Darboe alias Darboe C was decorated as the most hardworking committee member.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Ba S. Jabbi, the chairman of the Super Nawettan Organising Committee, said Super Nawettan is the most watched football tournament and attracts more spectators than any other football competition in the country.
Jabbi hailed FiBank Gambia Limited for bankrolling the championship for the past two years, adding that the cordial relationship between GFF and FiBank Gambia Limited would continue.
Pa Ousman Njie, manager institutional banking at FiBank Gambia Limited, thanked GFF for giving them the opportunity to contribute to the development football in the country.
Njie applauded the zones and encouraged them to bank with FiBank Gambia Limited.
Njie also challenged the Super Nawettan Organising Committee to improve their weaknesses ahead of next year’s competition, adding that 2016 was the second year the bank is sponsoring the annual championship.
Lamin Kabba Bajo, the president of the Gambia Football Federation, said Super Nawettan is the biggest and most watched football fiesta in the country.
Bajo hailed Gunjur for clinching the 2016 FiBank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan, noting that Gunjur is a footballing town and produced great players for the Gambia national team, such as Buba Star Janneh, late Foday Jabang, among others.
Bajo expressed optimism that FiBank Gambia Limited and GFF would sign a deal for the continued sponsorship of the Super Nawettan.
