Farato United FC on Sunday defeated Gunjur FC 7-6 on post-match penalty shootout in the Western region third division qualifiers after a 1-1draw in the normal play at the Sifoe Playing ground.
Gunjur FC opened the tally through striker Yusupha Barrow, alias 'Beckham', in the 25th minute of the game from a spectacular strike to make it 1-0 for Gunjur FC.
Farato knew that a defeat will see them out of the qualifiers and therefore regrouped themselves to put heavy pressure on Gunjur FC's defence line. Bakary Njie leveled the score sheet minutes before stoppage time, which pushed the game into penalty shootout.
Farato United will now join Brufut United FC, Black & White FC of Berending village, and Jah Oil FC of Sifoe village in the second round of the qualifiers, while Gunjur FC have qualified to the second round as the best loser .
The fixture for the second round will be published later.
Meanwhile Solifo FC are through to the quarterfinals of the 2010-11 Gunjur Nawetaan, following their narrow 1-0 win over Lanuja FC last Saturday. On the same day Oxford United FC defeated J&P Enterprises FC 2-1. Santos United FC drew 0-0 with Late Ismaila FC on Sunday.
