Dutch national charged with attempted rape

A Dutch national, Willem Stockman, was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with attempted rape.

Stockman denied the charge and was granted court bail of D200,000 with two Gambian sureties who must deposit their national ID cards.

The charge sheet read in court stated that on 20 March 2013, at Kerr Sering in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused person, Willem Stockman, attempted to have carnal knowledge of an under-aged girl, by taking her to his house and pointed his private part to her and asked her to hold it, and thereby committed an offence.

The case was adjourned till 15 April 2013.

He was represented by lawyers Lamin Camara and Singhateh, while the IGP was represented by Inspector Jammeh.
