Dr Olugander making waves in Europe

Mar 11, 2011, 1:06 PM

One of the greatest and hottest Gambian international reggae dancehall icons, Dr Olugander, who left The Gambia for Germany last week, is making name for himself in Europe, according to information emanating from Ganders Production.

He is also expected to play in Oslo and Spain.

Being in Germany, courtesy of two organizations based in Germany, Dr Olugander told PointEntertainment via email that he is currently staging series of musical concerts, adding that the proceeds obtained from the concerts will be used for his local charitable organization in The Gambia.

The rising reggae dancehall artiste, according to many music pundits, has been a brainchild in moving the country's musical landscape to the expected levels.

Known for his stage display, Dr Olugander, whose real name is Omar Ndow, is of the conviction that "we will raise the flag of The Gambia to higher heights while in Deutschland".

He says his "Giving Back Project" will continue to contribute its quota towards national development.
Olu, as he is fondly called, has in recent years performed majestically in many European countries including the United States, Finland, Norway, Germany and other countries.

"This is a big development for not only Olugander but the Gambian artistes who now boast of international recognition in the musical arena. I advise young artistes to work hard in order to achieve success," a fan of Gambian music told PointEntertainment.

Readers could recall that Dr Olugander is the first local artiste to extend a helping hand to disaster and flood victims in the country when he presented a handsome amount of cash to victims through the Vice-President of The Gambia last year.

"I am here in Germany for charity concerts for my non-profit-making organisation," the music doctor said. "It is a charity event, for which Dr Olugander has been chosen from The Gambia."

He further said via email in Germany: "My charity is advocating for a free education for the poor, and I would like to always make my contribution as Ganders Production, by giving back to the community."
