Disabled man allegedly duped of 17,000 euro

Two men, Omar S. Jarju and Dr Labawa, were Thursday arraigned before principal magistrate Dayoh M. Small-Dago of the Brikama magistrates’ court charged with obtaining money by false pretence.

The first accused, Omar S. Jarju, who was present in court, denied the charge, and was granted court bail of one million dalasi, while the 2nd accused was reported to be at large.

A Gambian surety must also provide landed property, proof of means and deposit his or her ID card

The charge sheet read in court stated that the accused persons, Omar S. Jarjue and Dr labawa (at large), in March 2014 at Brikama Town in the Kombo Central district of the West Coast Region and diverse places, introduced Jammeh Sallah, a crippled man to one Dr Labawa and obtained 17,000 Euros (equivalent to D920, 129.00) from him with the promise that he would be cured by the said Dr. Labawa, which representation he knew or believed to be false, and thereby committed an offence.

The case was adjourned to 29 April 2014.
