Yerro Saidy, a detective officer attached to the Major Crime Unit, recently testified at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court in the trial of one Babucarr Edward Okore, who was charged with three counts of impersonation, threatening violence and criminal trespass.
Testifying before Magistrate Secka, detective Saidy told the court that on 31 August 2010, he was part of the investigating panel at the NIA headquarters, when he was instructed to obtain a cautionary statement from the accused, Babucarr Edward Okoro.
He said he obtained the cautionary statement in the presence of an independent witness Ebrima Jallow, adding that the accused was narrating while he was recording the statement.
Detective Saidy further adduced that after recording the statement, it was read all over to the accused, who, as well as the independent witness, later signed the statement, adding that he (the witness) also endorsed the statement.
The case continues.
