In
the same vein, Colonel Mamadou Alieu Bah has replaced Mr Sonko, official
sources said.
Ousman
Sonko was the longest serving minister of the Interior in the Second Republic
(ten-year service). He first joined the Cabinet in 2006, and was removed in
April 2012 and appointed Gambia’s ambassador to Spain.
On
May 7, 2012 he bounced back as minister of the Interior and held the post until
16 September 2016, when he was relieved of his appointment.
Mamadou
Alieu Bah was a mathematics teacher in Bwiam Secondary School in 1992-1993.
From
1993 to 1995, he worked for the defunct Continent Bank.
He
joined the Gambia Armed Forces in 1996, and had military training in Turkey and
Taiwan.
Up
to his appointment on Friday 16 September 2016, he was the director of Finance
of the Gambia National Army.
