Burglar gets four-year-jail term

A man was recently convicted and sentenced to a mandatory jail term of four years by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Clement.

Dam Cham was found guilt of the charges of stealing, shop breaking and stealing and was sentenced on count one to two-year imprisonment, count two four-year imprisonment and count three four-year imprisonment.

All sentences were to run concurrently.

The particulars of offence on count one read that on 26 June 2011, at Dippa-Kunda, in the Kanifing Municipality, the convict, Dam Cham, stole the following: power drilling machine, CD tape player, four speakers, three pairs of shoes and remote control, all being the property of one Vaili Vas Montero.

Count two stated that Cham broke into the shop of the complainant with intent to commit a felony therein with stealing, whereas count three revealed that after previous conviction of stealing, Cham again committed the same offence of stealing after being discharged from prison on 15 June 2011.
