Brikama United wallop Serrekunda United in GFA 1st Division

League champions Brikama United on Sunday defeated debutant Serrekunda United 4-1 in the Week 15 fixtures of the 2011-2012 Gambia Football Association (GFA) division one league played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium.

Brikama United, who lost to Gambia Ports Authority 1-0 in their re-scheduled Week 15 fixtures in the mid-week came into the game with aims of bagging maximum points as well as keeping their hopes of retaining their 2010-2011 league crown.

Brikama United opened the score through midfield general Modou Lamin Sawo in the 2nd minute of the game from a close range strike to give his side the lead before striker Pa Modou Bah netted the second, third and fourth goals in the 12th, 18th and 21st minutes of the game to complete his hat-trick.

Serrekunda United responded back for an equalizer but managed to pull back one through prolific striker Madi Fatty in the 90th minute, which eventually proved to be a consolation for the Serrekunda-based side.

Blue boys Wallidan were held to a goalless draw by Hawks in the all-Banjul derby game played at the Independence Stadium on Bakau.

Elsewhere, Gamtel were also held to a goalless draw by Young Africans in the other Week 15 fixtures played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on the same day.

Hawks have now collected 20 points in fifteen games, Brikama United 19 points in fifteen games, Gamtel and Young Africans both 18 points in fifteen outings, while Wallidan are struggling 2nd place from bottom with 15 points in fifteen games, and Serrekunda United rooted at the bottom of the table with 14 points in fifteen games.
