The
president, Adama Barrow has promised the people of Brikama and surroundings
that the construction of a new state-of-the-art hospital will begin by next
year.
Mr.
Barrow made the pronouncement at Basura and Jalangba villages both in the West
Coast Region during his Meet the People Tour.
He
said his government has realised the importance of health care delivery and
access to major hospitals and health centers.
He alluded to the high population rate of the region, saying it needs to
have a general hospital that will not only serve the community of Brikama and
surroundings but as a major referral hospital.
He
stated that all the necessary requirements needed to facilitate the
construction of the hospital have already been finalised including the
allocation of a plot of land by the community of Brikama, assuring that the
construction will begin by the 2020 with financial support from the Qatari
government.
“We
understand the need as a government for the community of Brikama and
surroundings to have a general hospital that has the capacity of receiving
referrals from Banjul and Serre-Kunda hospitals. This is to assure you that the
construction of a new hospital in Brikama will begin by year 2020 and right
now, all necessary requirements to construct the hospital have already being
finalised,” Mr. Barrow reassured.
The
hospital, he said, after its completion will have doctors and nurses from Qatar
to provide medical services to the community of Brikama and its environs.
“We
will not only construct the hospital for the people but to also provide them
medical doctors from the Qatari government to render medical services to the
people of the region,” Mr. Barrow affirmed.
