Brufut came from behind to share spoils with 2012 Super Nawettan zonal champions Brikama after a 1-1 draw in the opening game of the 2013 Skye Bank Gambia Limited-sponsored Super Nawettan zonal football tournament played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on Sunday.
Brufut, who lost to Brikama 3-1 in the semi-final last season, made a stunning start to the game as they dominated the first half of the encounter and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Lamin Sonko could have netted the opener for Brufut in the 22nd minute of the game but his shot was denied by Brikama’s custodian Janko Jaiteh.
Brikama also came very close to opening the score in the 26th minute of the game when striker Yaya Aimane almost perfected a header into the net of the Brufutians but his brilliant effort was denied by Brufut’s net minder Alagie Camara.
Brikama relented not and opened the scores through winger Salifu Saho in the 31st minute of the game after breaking through Brufut’s defence to send Brikama fans into jubilation and ecstasy, thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Brikama.
In the second half of the brilliant action-packed encounter, Brufut injected in some fresh blood to boost their attacking tag. They in deed dominated ball possession and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities.
Landing Darboe Del Piero came very close to extending the lead for Brikama in the 61st minute of the game but his powerful long range effort was punched away by Brufut’s goalkeeper Alagie Camara.
Captain Sainey Jatta could have levelled the scores for Brufut in the 76th minute of the game from a penalty spot after Brikama’s centre back Prince Koko handled the ball inside the eighteen-yard box but he smashed the ball over the cross bar, leaving Brufut hungrier and desperate than before the spot-kick opportunity.
At last, substitute Alieu Jallow levelled the scores for Brufut in the 82nd minute of the game from a spectacular header to cancel out Salifu Saho’s 31st minute opener to share the loot.
Brikama and Brufut are each surviving on 1 point in one game.
