Blue Star, who gained promotion to the GFF second tier after finishing second place in the GFF third division triangular qualifiers behind Lamin United, made a woeful start to the second division league campaign and lost most of their games.
They dominated the game, created numerous goal-scoring opportunities and managed to notch in one goal, which eventually proved to be a winner for the Serrekunda East-based outfit as well as their first victory in the country’s second tier.
Friday’s slender win over Sait Matty has earned Blue Star their first victory in the 2013-2014 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) second division league. They are now looking at replicating their stunning performance in their remaining fixtures in order to avoid relegation to the third tier.
Struggling Serrekunda East side were held to a goalless draw by Brikama-based outfit Bombada United at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
KGI also drew 2-2 with Tallinding United at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium, while hotel boys Seaview beat Lamin United 1-0 in the other week-eight fixtures played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium the same day.
