Brikama Area Council (BAC) on Monday handed over a newly constructed toilet facility worth D240,715 to the Wellingara Market Committee in Kombo North District of West Coast Region (WCR).
Speaking at the ceremony, Modou Jonga, PRO of Brikama Area Council, said the completion of the toilet facility manifests the government’s commitment to respond to the needs of communities in West Coast Region.
Jonga urged the Local Market Committee to make good use of the facility and called on the general public to pay their dues to the council to enhance rapid development in their areas.
In handing over the keys of the toilets to the Ward Councillor for onward transmission to the Local Market Committee, Paul Alex Mendy called on the committee to ensure the toilets are maintained so the resources used on the facility can benefit the general public.
In receiving the keys, Mariama Bah-Saine, Banjulinding Ward Councillor, expressed happiness over the completion of the toilet facility and hailed the government for creating an enabling environment for business and development.
Mrs Bah-Saine said that keeping the toilets hygienic should be a collective task for everyone, especially the market committee members.
Mr Bunjaring Jadama, market manager of Brikama Area Council, used the opportunity to call on market vendors to pay their daily markets dues regularly to enable the Council to provide basic services and amenities to communities.
In her vote of thanks, Jarra Kanteh, deputy chairperson of Wellingara Market Local Committee, said she was delighted at the completion of the facility and spoke of the resolve of her Committee to ensure the sustainability of the toilets.
Other speakers at the ceremony were Lang Luwan Conteh Senior, Supervisor Environment and Health Unit of Brikama Area Council, and Samba Bah, Chairman of the Village Development Committee of Wellingara.
