STATEMENT ON THE CURRENT POLITICAL SITUATION

We, the Association of Real Estate Companies call upon His Excellency President Yahya Jammeh to respect the will of the Gambian People and hand over power to the newly elected President His Excellency Adama Barrow.

After conceding defeat and congratulating the new President, the nation applauded, honored your bravery and maturity.

But on December 9th, when you took a u-turn by rejecting the December 1st results and calling it null and void, it came as a total shock and disappointment to the whole nation and the world at large.

Your pronouncement has affected our business as this time of the year is the peak period of the tourism sector and most of our customers live abroad and are now afraid to come home due to the perceived instability of the Country.

On this note, we wish to add our voice to the statements made by the various institutions but more especially that of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce regarding the serious effects of this pronouncement on the economy.

We are hereby asking you to revert your decision to challenge the voice of the people and open the doors for a smooth transition in the interest of peace and stability.

We take this opportunity to congratulate the President-elect Adama Barrow and pledge our full allegiance and support to him and his cabinet.

Signed: Samba S, Camara

President of AREC
