Serrekunda United on Tuesday registered their first league victory in five matches in the GFA second division league following their 2-1 victory over Kaira Silo at Manjai Football Field.
Serrekunda United's superb and excellent performance in the first half could have yielded a result in 19th minute when defender Kalilou Cham got an opportunity to score but the ball was cleared by Kaira Silo goalkeeper Dominic Gomez. In the 32nd minute Abdou Njie had a free header and ball went wide.
Kaira Silo opened the scoring in the 45th minute through Wakka Bass and the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Kaira Silo.
As play resumed in the second half, Serrekunda United players came all out for victory and they leveled the scores in the 74th minute through striker Abdou Njie. Alieu Sowe sealed their first ever victory in the second division in the 86th minute of the game.
In the current standings, Serrekunda East are topping the table with 11 points despite sharing the same number of points with Interior. But East are edging Interior on goal difference.
Nema United are third with nine points followed by Young Africans on eight.
At the middle the of the table lie GPA and Lamin FC occupying 5th and 6th positions with 7 and 6 points respectively.
Jambanjelly and Kaira Silo are joint seventh position holders with six points.
At the bottom of the table are Ham Ham in 9th position with four points. Despite their win, Serrekunda United are still languishing at the bottom of the table with four points.
