Sep 10, 2013, 10:20 AM

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Monday announced that it would conduct a National Assembly bye-election for the Kiang West constituency in the Lower River Region, after the seat’s holder was expelled.

Hon. Yahya Dibba was expelled by the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction, APRC, after the party said in a s statement on Thursday that he was found to have conducted himself in a manner that runs contrary to the rules of the APRC, and the party cannot accept such behavior from its membership.

According to the party, Hon. Dibba was expelled in the interest of sanity within the ranks of the APRC party, as well as its support base.

In a press release issued yesterday, the IEC said the bye-election, slated for Thursday 5th December 2013, was necessitated by the expulsion of the erstwhile National Assembly Member of Kiang West from the APRC party, on whose ticket he was elected to the National Assembly.
