Alleged cement theft case continues

The criminal trial of one Muhammed Cham, who allegedly stole 1190 bags of cement, continued recently before Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court with the testimony of the prosecution witness, one Basiru Manneh.

Testifying, Basiru Manneh told the court that he is a driver, and that he knows the accused person.

According to him, they engaged in cement business with the complainant, who later handed over the business to the accused, and traveled to Nigeria.

Manneh further told the court that when the complainant returned, he called him to ask the accused to supply him (the witness) with some cement.

The complainant later told him that he could not reach the accused.

The witness narrated that they later came to know that the accused was out of the jurisdiction.

The accused, he added, later called one of his friends, by the name of King Jarju, who said that he is in Dakar, and was about to travel to Germany.

He said when the complainant asked the accused about the said 1190 bags of cement, he told him that he sold the cement on loan.

Manneh finally revealed that he also bought 400 bags of cement from the accused at a price of D180 per bag.
