Alleged burglars arraigned

Jerry Saidy, Lamin Marong and Fansu Bojang were recently arraigned before Magistrate Drammeh of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, charged with house breaking and stealing.

They all pleaded not guilty of the charges and were each granted court bail of D100,000 with two Gambian sureties each.

The particulars of offence on count one stated that, on 30 November 2010, at Bakau Kachilly, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused persons jointly broke into the house of one Baba Samateh with intent to commit a felony to wit stealing.

On count two, they were alleged to have stolen from the house of the said Baba Samateh the following: fiscal cash of D28,000, foreign currencies of 1,800 Swedish Pounds, fiscal cash of D6,000, gold chain African Map (value unknown) and fiscal cash of D5,000 meant for fish money.

The case was adjourned till 10 May 2011.
