Advancing Cashew Production

Oct 23, 2009, 3:07 PM

The Gambia River Basin Cashew Value Chain Enhancement Project (CEP) is indeed a welcome initiative.

The three million-dollar project will no doubt boost cashew production in the country, and thus empower cashew farmers through the Gambia River Basin Cashew Value Chain Enhancement Project (CEP).

This kind of initiative will in no small measure promote cashew production in the country, as well as add value to the product.

Ahead of the implementation project, the beneficiary institutions in the country on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IRD, the implementing agency.

By signing the agreement, the beneficiary institutions are committing themselves to effective and efficient execution of the project.

And by so doing, you must live up to expectations in order to achieve the set goals of the programme.

It?s clear that when successfully implemented this kind of initiative could be replicated in other parts of the country.

The project aims to maximise the income of over fifty thousand cashew farmers and their families, thus directly benefiting an estimated three hundred and fifty thousand people.

This is a great motivation and when implemented fully it can improve the livelihoods of so many people.

The beneficiary institutions and their line ministries, such as Agriculture, Forestry and Environment must all ensure the success of the project.
