A call for national unity

Apr 6, 2010, 11:51 AM

We once again use this Easter period to call on all Gambians to bury the hatchet and work towards national unity.

National unity is, of course, paramount and, to achieve this satisfactorily, we urge all Gambians to work together in the best interest of the country.

If we are to succeed as a people and a nation, we must endeavour to treat each other with dignity and respect.

We need to remain united, and strive hard to make this country a better place to live in, as patriotic citizens.

We, therefore, use this forum to appeal to all Gambians to work for peace and national reconciliation.

We implore all Gambians to give peace a chance as it is indispensable to sustainable development.

In the same vein, citizens must also demonstrate the highest standards of patriotism to serve as pedestal for achieving our national blueprints.

For our guests and non-citizens residing in the country, we encourage you to be always law-abiding, and to serve as good ambassadors of your institutions and countries.

"Men's hearts ought not to be set against one another, but set with one another, and all against evil only."
Thomas Carlyle
