The 18th Edition of the Mike Knight Trophy sponsored by Dorene Knight, the wife of the late Mike Knight has ended at the Fajara Golf Course last Sunday 15th November 2009.
The two-day golf competition featured 7 professional Golfers and another 25 Amateur golfers who competed for Stableford.
In the professional competition, Gibbou Jallow and Bakary Touray were both equal on 74 points earlier but Bakary Touray lost on the play-off. As a result, Gibbou Jallow emerged first, while Bakary Touray took second.
Tijan Kuyateh occupied third with 75points.
The winners were all awarded with prizes at the end of the competition.
In the Stableford category, Vimal Shah, Alan Machray and Mike Tomlinson were named the winners of the Nearest to the pin and were both awarded with prizes.
The Longest puts prizes went to Alan Machray, Paul Maroun, Mike Stead, Horst Voss and David Costello.
Barry Adlinton was awarded the most outspoken senior and oldest Golfer of the competition.
Barry Adlinton, Sharon Mears and Suzanne Osvari were also named the winning team on Saturday with 87 points, while Paul Knight, Alan Machray and Graham Birse occupied the second spot.
Sunday’s winning team comprised Mike Stead, David Costello and Paul Maroun.
The overall winner of the Mike Knight Trophy was Furkan Tasbasi, while Alan Machray came out second and Suzanne Osvari took third.
Speaking to Dorene Knight, the sponsor of the tournament, she said her late husband Mike Knight was one time the Chairman and Treasurer of the Fajara Club before he met his untimely death.
Mrs. Knight also pointed out that her husband was also the Manager of Standard Chartered Bank and has worked with the bank for eight years.
Mrs. Dorene Knight who is residing outside the county is looking forward to coming to The Gambia every year.
