
The campaign will pathways for talented Gambian boys to pursue professional careers in sports.
The project, led by Cameroonian sports promoter and founder of Fullness Sport Academy, Kenmogne Youbougne Josiane Noëlle Fatima, is aimed at giving youth renewed hope through structured talent development and international exposure.
Madam Fatima, who also heads Fullness Sport Academy and NGO, stated that “Let Them Shine” project focuses on boys aged 17 to 19.
Fatima would offer them an alternative to the perilous route of irregular migration by equipping them with the right skills and opportunities in football.
She noted that many promising young athletes are lured into unsafe migration journeys because they believe professional success is unattainable in their own countries.
“These young men often risk their lives and lose their talents in search of opportunities abroad that could have been nurtured right here at home.
Star Academy seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of irregular migration while providing a solid platform for players to showcase their abilities before international and local scouts," Fatima said.
According to Madam Fatima, several international scouts have partnered with the programme, including Thierry Alonso from France, Djibril Sow "Diego" from France, Abdou Salam Sow, a legend from Guinea, Lekan Abdul-Lateef Timothy from the United Kingdom, Djibril Cante from United Kingdom and Ibrahima Sory Bah from Guinea.
Madam Fatima revealed that the upcoming scouting event is expected to take place in The Gambia in November 2025.
She further revealed that players would be selected from various local zones, adding that the players would demonstrate their skills during the scouting event.
Madam Fatima further revealed that outstanding talents would have the chance to join international clubs or professional training programmes, paving the way for their growth in football.
She pointed out that the campaign has received support from the Minister of Youth and Sports, who has pledged to give a red card to irregular migration in sports
Madam Fatima further pointed out that the event would pay tribute to late Fatim Jawara, the former goalkeeper of The Gambia’s women’s national team.
She added that with clear messages: “Stop Irregular Migration; “Let Them Shine” project seeks to transform the dreams of young footballers into opportunities for a better future.
Madam Fatima is currently seeking for sponsorship, while calling on Government of The Gambia to assist her with funding.
