Maahad SSS, Abuko UBS crowned champions of inter-school athletics championship

Maahad Senior Secondary and Abuko Upper Basic Schools on Sunday crowned champions of the 2026 Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) national inter-schools’ athletic championship.

The annual championship was held at the Kinderdorf Bottrop Football Field in Brikama, West Coast Region.

They won Senior Secondary School category after bagging 110 points.

Maahad Senior Secondary School won 11 gold medals, 8 Silver medals and Bronze medals.

They received D100, 000 as the champions.

Jamisa Senior Secondary School finished as runners-up after snatching 86 points.

They won 7 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 5 Bronze medals

Jamisa received D50,000 as runners-up.

Latrikunda Sabiji Senior Secondary School finished as third-place holder after securing 66 points.

They won 5 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 4 bronzes medals.

Latrikunda Sabiji received D25,000.

Nema Su finished fourth-place with 48 points.

They won 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronzes.

Brikama finished 5th position with 28 points.

They won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

Meanwhile Charles Jow SSS, Bottrop, Gunjur and Farafenni all secured 18 points   

In the Upper Basic School category, Abuko Upper Basic School alias “Kankurang” came out first-position after winning 5 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 7 bronze medals with 84 points.  Kitty Upper Basic School finished as runners-up with 82 points.

They won 5 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 8 bronzes medals. Presentation of Mary Upper Basic School secured third-place with 64 points.

They won 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals, Mansa Colley Bojang finished fourth place with 48 points.

They won 4 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.

New Convenant Upper Basic School came fifth with 20  points.

They won 3 gold medals, and 1 bronze medal.

Sinchu Baliya finished sixth-place with 18 points.

They won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.

Sinchu Baliya received gold medals and a cash prize of D50, 000 as winners.

The Latrikunda-based school won the national inter-schools’ athletics championship for the fifth time in a row.
