Ebrima Camara who broke the national record twice within hours and set a new national record on Sunday in Switzerland has set his sight on repeating the same feat at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Camara, who ran 9.98 seconds during the Resisprint La Chaux-de-Fonds to set a new national record will be making his second Olympic appearance for The Gambia later this month in Paris.

Camara thanked the AlmightyAllah for giving him the health and strength to be able to make it to the Olympics again.

“I feel excited because it is not everybody that gets the opportunity to secureback-to-back Olympic Games appearances,” Camara said.

Camara observed that every athlete would want to win a medal during the Olympic, adding that every country will bring their best athletes.

Camara stated that his aim is to repeat his recent success in Switzerland.

Nesta, as he is fondly called, noted that his training was going well at the moment with his coach in his training camp.

He noted that this year’s Olympic Games will be different with fans returning to the stadiums to cheer them up (unlike the Tokyo Olympic Games when stadiums were closed to fans due to Covid-19.)

While thanking his supporters, he appealed to them to continue supporting and praying for them, saying they will do their best to make proud.

Nesta gained his first international experience in 2013 at the African Youth Championships in Warri, where he finished fourth in the 100-meter run in 10.91s.

He then finished the Junior African Championships in Réduit with 11.27 seconds in the lead and won the silver medal in the Gambian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 14.8 minutes.

Two years later he reached seventh place over 100 meters at the Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa in 10.91 s and finished sixth in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 42.00 s.

He then took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville for the first time and was eliminated there with a timing of 10.60 s and 40.09 s in the 100 meters and 4 x 100 meter relay in the preliminary round respectively.

In 2017 he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, in which he was eliminated with 10.66 seconds. In addition, he finished fourth with the relay in 40.20 s.

The following year he participated in the Commonwealth Games held in the Australian Gold Coast over 100 meters with 10.50 s and with the relay team clocking 40.57s. He also ran the 200-meter race with a timing 21.58 s but that was not enough to qualify him for another round.

In 2019 he finished seventh over 100 meters at the African Games in Rabat in 10.33s and finished fourth in the relay in 39.44 s, while he was eliminated in the semifinals over 200 meters with 20.82 s.

He also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated with 10.38s in the preliminary round.

Ebrima secured a place in the final of the Men’s 100 metres race of the 13th African Games, Accra in March this year.

The 27-year-old finished 2nd position in the semifinal with a timing of 10:45 seconds.

The athlete showed a magnificent performance after finishing 1st position with a timing of 10:49 second during his heat 1 in the 100 metre race.

He broke the national record on Sunday in Switzerland during the Resisprint La Chaux-de-Fonds.
