The Gambia’s local based team widely called CHAN on Tuesday morning held a friendly game against First Division Champions, Fortune FC.

The game, as described by Coach Alagie Sarr is geared towards looking at the team’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the international friendly against Senegal in June.

The game which was played at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum ended two goals to one in favor of the CHAN team.

Mansour Mbye broke the deadlock for the CHAN team before Bakary Jawara restored parity for the Petroleum Boys. Brikama United footballer Bun Sanneh who was introduced in the second period found the back of the net to give the CHAN team the win.

Head coach of the CHAN team Alagie Sarr said: “This test game was to assess the team after a vigorous screening process in the past weeks. This was the first time we have engaged in a real game against a strong opponent in Fortune.’’

“We have learned a lot and will rectify our errors before our next test game. Today we were not looking at goals but how to organize the team,’’ he added.

The next CHAN competition will be held in Algeria from 8th to 31st January 2023. The tournament was originally scheduled to be played from 10th July to 1st August 2022. Nonetheless, CAF rescheduled it to January 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 47 teams will participate in the qualifiers. Teams will be drawn into 12 groups with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the tournament.

Champions Morocco will also participate in the draw even though they have already secured their place in the tournament, which means only one other team from their group will qualify for the competition.
