The statement was made by GFF 1st vice president Bakary K. Jammeh during the final of the maiden stakeholders' tournament organised by the the Gambia Football Coaches Association.
The Sports Journalists Association of the Gambia won the maiden tournament after defeating the Gambia Football Coaches Association 4-1 in the final played on Sunday.
“We are grateful to all the stakeholders that honoured the invitation of the Coaches Association to participate in this very important tournament. We will ensure the tournament is now part of the football calendar in The Gambia. Football really unites the world and football continues to unite us,” Bakary K. Jammeh said while addressing the gathering.
He added that the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) objective is to develop all aspects of football, noting that it is a great honour to see very important stakeholders (SJAG and Coaches Association) making it to the final.
According to him, the sport journalists commentaries and criticisms have contributed significantly to the country’s football development.
“Our coaches, both local and international are bringing success to all our teams. The coaches are also high up in the development of football in the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, the maiden tournament organized by the Gambia Football Coaches Association was supported by the president Gambia Football Federation Lamin Kaba Bajo.
The stakeholders' tournament was meant to bring together football stakeholders in the country.
Tournament winners SJAG were awarded a giant trophy and cash prize of D15, 000, while the runners up, the Football Coaches Association pocketed D10, 000.
The stakeholders that took part in the tournament were the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia, The Gambia Football Coaches Association, The Gambia Football Referees Association, The National Scorpions Fans Clubs Association, Security and Medics respectively.
