Coach Jaiteh was speaking in an interview with reporters after defeating Kabafita United 4-3 on post-match penalty shootouts following a 1-1 draw in the regulation time during the Brikama nawetan curtain raiser final played at the Box Bar Mini Stadium on Saturday.
Jaliba United recently registered great successes in the Brikama nawetan after winning four trophies. They won the two trophies (both league and knockout tournaments) last season. The Kora Boys also won the maiden Cup Winners Cup staged by Africell before triumphing in this year’s Brikama curtain raiser final.
“We always believe ourselves that we can do anything because it is football. Despite conceding a goal in the first half, I told my players that it is never written in football that those who scored first will eventually become the winner,” said coach Jaiteh.
According to him, both teams wanted to win but they believed in themselves that they could win.
“Despite winning both last season's league cup and knockout trophies, it is never going to be an easy season for Jaliba United. We would have a lot of challenges because we already won four trophies. However, we will continue working harder ahead of the new season,” he said.
Lamin Ceesay, head coach of Kabafita United, expressed disappointment with losing the Super Cup final after first taking the lead in the first period.
Coach Ceesay, who lost the 2017 league cup final against Orlando City as Kabafita United team captain, also lost twice (last year’s league cup tournament and this season's Super Cup Final) to Jaliba United as a manager and said he felt bad losing those finals.
“I felt bad honestly. When I lost the league cup tournament in 2017 against Orlando, I felt terrible. And when I lost to Jaliba United in the league cup tournament last season, I feel miserable. This time around, I feel wose as a manager losing the Super Cup final against the same opponents (Jaliba United).
According to him, they will never give up and would continue to work harder.
