The Crocodile boys, Bakau, won this year’s Super Nawetan tournament after defeating Serrekunda West in the final.
“It’s been 14 years since we started advocating the killing of two birds with one stone. Discipline is one of the most important things in life and we (Bakau) have been termed as what we are not (indiscipline) for a very long time,” said Coach Jawara during an interview with the press.
He expressed hope that Bakau will never be seen as a zone of violence again, adding that the triumph will build a new foundation in terms of what and how Bakau is perceived.
“Winning the zonal tournament is not about the money but instead what we have achieved. This year we came to show people that Bakau is not what and how they think we are in terms of violence.”
He thanked the entire Bakau people, especially their committee members, the current U-20 coach Abdoulie Bojang and their fan club for their massive support.
Muhammed Mendy, Head Coach of Serrekunda West zonal team, said he was disappointed at the final result and congratulated Bakau for winning the final.
Coach Mendy said losing the final was a bitter pill to swallow, though it is football: “You win, lose or draw.”
Meanwhile, as winners, Bakau zonal team were awarded a giant trophy, gold medals and a cash prize of D250,000, while Serrekunda West were awarded silver medals and a cash prize of D200,000.
