The East side defeated Sanyang 3-0 during their third-place game played at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium on Friday 30 December 2022.
Alagie Wally, Assan Jallow - fondly called ‘Saas’ and Balla Lowe scored for Serrekunda East in the 61st, 72nd and 90th minutes of the match respectively.
“This is a great victory for Serrekunda East and its entire community. Victory is what we wanted in our semifinals even though we were eliminated. Third place is a good position,” Coach Ebrima Sarjo told reporters after the game.
Coach Sarjo and his boys, who were defeated in the semifinal stage by Serrekunda West, noted that they had a good campaign. He said they took not their third-place game lightly.
“We took the game very seriously because we wanted to win something at the end of the tournament.”
He thanked their management, board, players and fans, adding that they learned their lesson during their elimination at the semifinal stage of the championship.
Bakary Conteh, Head Coach of Sanyang zonal team, said he was disappointed at the final result, although his side were better than Serrekunda East.
As winners of the third place, Serrekunda East were decorated with bronze medals and a cheque for D100,000.
