The signing ceremony, held on Tuesday at the AGD offices at The Quadrangle in Banjul, was led by Zenith Bank’s Managing Director Mr. Kabiru Mustapha, and attended by senior officials from both institutions.
The agreement marks a strategic partnership aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and transparency in government revenue transactions. At the core of the collaboration is the integration of commercial bank services with the newly launched Payment Gateway Platform a digital infrastructure that enables real-time processing of payments and streamlines various government services.
“This partnership marks a critical step forward in digitizing financial services and promoting transparency in public revenue collection,” said Mr. Mustapha. “We are proud to be part of this transformation and committed to supporting the government’s digitalization agenda.”
According to the MoU, Zenith Bank will act as a designated collection agent for payments to government entities, remitting collected funds to the Central Bank of The Gambia twice a week. The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and significantly reduce delays and inefficiencies in revenue management.
The public can now make payments for various government services at any Zenith Bank branch across the country. These services include fees for machine-readable passports, business registrations, fishing licenses, land and lease applications, development permits, mining and quarrying royalties, sale of assets, and other state revenue lines.
Officials from the Accountant General’s Department hailed the initiative as a step towards a more accountable and citizen-friendly public service.
With this MoU, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to fostering innovation in financial governance a shift that aligns with national development goals and global best practices in public sector digitization.
