The Federation of Gambia Muslim Youths (FEGAMY), an organisation that aims to represent and unite Gambian Muslim youth, has started registration ahead of its highly anticipated 2025 Youth Camp, which is expected to host over 500 young people from across the country.

As part of their preparations, an orientation was held at Doha Hall in Kanifing Layout to welcome new members and inspire youth involvement in Islamic leadership and development.

The session was aimed at educating new members about their rights, responsibilities, and the wide range of opportunities available within FEGAMY, including participation in leadership, policy engagement, and national youth development programs.

The event also attracted youth leaders, stakeholders and community influencers committed to empowering Muslim youth throughout The Gambia.

At the orientation, Mr. Ebrima Bah, Communications Officer of FEGAMY, emphasised the non-political nature of the organisation.

This association, he said, is strictly focused on teaching Islamic values and youth empowerment.

“We do not engage in politics because there is no politics in the Qur’an. We encourage every young person to join us in this journey and become better Muslims who contribute positively to society.”

Mr. Bah also highlighted the importance of the upcoming 2025 Youth Camp and its accompanying elections, urging young people to take an active role.

“Anyone who is interested in joining is welcome. We are building a strong foundation of Islamic knowledge and leadership among the youth.”

Munas Sillameh, Vice President of FEGAMY, echoed similar sentiments, encouraging young girls and boys to embrace Islam wholeheartedly.

She described Islam as the only path to Jannah, reminding that life is temporary, and as such people must live according to the values of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

“As young women, we must be mindful of our dress and behavior. Our choices today shape our future.”

Chairman of the Board, Omar A. Bojang, took participants through the history of FEGAMY, recalling the struggles the association faced during the former regime.

“It was a very difficult time. Some Imams were even questioned for being part of the association. At one point, the association was blocked by the authorities,” he said. “But thanks to the persistence of Imam Ratib and others, we were able to appeal directly to the former president and continue our mission.”

Bojang thus called on youth to remain patient, dedicated, and united in their faith.

“Young people have the power to defend and promote Islam in this country. Many of you have mastered the Qur’an and understand its benefits. I believe that with this strength, you will make the upcoming congress a success.”
