Ahead of the December 2026 presidential polls, the National Council for Civic Education (NCCE) in its continued efforts to raise civic awareness in communities recently wrapped-up its structured dialogue sessions targeting political actors and communities held across five regions of The Gambia.

The session, under the HOPE Project, was implemented in partnership with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) under the theme - “Bridging the Divide: Fostering Social Cohesion and Peace”.

The initiative was aimed at strengthening democratic participation, reduce political polarisation, and promote peaceful political engagement as the country prepares for this crucial moment in the country’s election calendar. The dialogue sessions engaged over 550 influential stakeholders, including political actors, community leaders, youth, women, civil society organisations, persons with disabilities, and religious leaders across the Upper River, Central River, North Bank, Lower River and West Coast Regions.

Addressing communities, Momodou A. Sise, chairman of NCCE, underscored the importance of civic responsibility and unity, saying the 5th December polls is a test of the collective maturity of Gambians.

‘‘Let us choose peace over division and put The Gambia first." he stated.

The nationwide advocacy, he added, was at aimed promoting peaceful co-existence, tolerance, and national unity among Gambians.

Sise reminded that the sessions provided them an important platform to engage people from various regions in constructive dialogue to create mutual understanding, and a shared commitment to peace, particularly as The Gambia approaches the 2026 presidential election.

To this end, he extended sincere appreciation to Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and all partners, whose contributions made these engagements successful.
