The training, held at the Regional Education Directorate in Brikama, was designed to equip school leaders with practical management and administrative skills. Key focus areas include the functional roles of school leaders, effective school administration, alignment with national education sector policies, and the implementation of the Education Act.
Opening the programme, Mr Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), commended the Regional Education Directorate and its partners for initiating the capacity-building exercise. He underscored the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and transparency in school management, urging participants to embed these principles into their daily leadership practices.
Mr Mendy also reminded participants of their responsibility in managing government-allocated School Improvement Grants (SIG). He cautioned that any misuse of funds could result in legal and disciplinary consequences, stressing that accountability and integrity are essential to ensuring resources are effectively utilised to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary called for collective action to advance accessible, equitable, inclusive, and quality education for every child in The Gambia. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting school managers as key drivers of educational reform and institutional excellence.
The training marks a significant milestone in strengthening education leadership in Region Two West, ensuring school managers are well prepared to deliver on the national vision of inclusive and quality education for all.
