Sanyang set for historic SDF maiden AGM

The community of Sanyang is preparing for a milestone event as the Sanyang Development Fund (SDF) convenes its first-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 13 December 2025. Organisers say the inaugural gathering, held under the theme “Laying the Foundation for Sustainable Development of Sanyang,” will serve as a critical platform for community dialogue, transparency, accountability, and collective action.

In an exclusive interview with The Voice Newspaper, Abdoulie Sallah Fatty, Sanyang Diaspora Ambassador and Public Relations Officer of the SDF, said the AGM is designed to bring all sons and daughters of Sanyang under one umbrella to accelerate the community’s development aspirations.

“This event will create a much-needed space for members to interact, share ideas, and chart new pathways to attract the development our community urgently needs,” he stated.

Ambassador Sallah Fatty highlighted the significant strides made by the association since its establishment. He noted that the SDF has successfully strengthened unity among Sanyang natives both at home and in the diaspora, creating bridges between families and establishing forums for dialogue and collaboration.

One of the most notable achievements, he revealed, was the Government’s decision to shift the proposed deep-sea port site initially earmarked for Sanyang.

“Without the timely intervention of SDF, SUKA and concerned citizens, the Gambia Ports Authority and Alport would have taken half of Sanyang. Thousands of homes and businesses would not be standing today,” he argued.

He further disclosed that SDF continues to play a vital role in supporting the Sanyang Health Centre through targeted interventions, while also working with SUKA to assist bereaved families in repatriating the remains of loved ones who pass away abroad, ensuring they receive dignified burials at home.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Sallah Fatty said SDF plans to scale up its support for education, skills development, women and children’s empowerment, as well as electrifying the entire community through a modern street-lighting system.

He encouraged all natives particularly the youth to join the association and contribute towards achieving its vision for a developed and united Sanyang.

Concluding, he extended heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders and citizens contributing to the advancement of SDF, while calling for deeper unity, understanding, and teamwork in the best interest of the community.
