The run was divided into three segments; 8 to 10 years old ran 1km from Pipeline Mosque to traffic lights; 11 to 14 years old ran 2kms from Q Cell Building to Traffic Lights; while15 to 17 years old ran 3kms starting from St. Therese Junior School to Taffic Lights.
The run, followed by aerobics, chaired by Ali Fitness, featured activities such as poetry, comedy, and was themed; "For Every Child, Every Right".
At the event, Mr Abdoulie Jawo, chairperson of the run, thanked UNICEF for the partnership stressing that children should be given the environment and platform to showcase their inner talents and potentials and this calls for collective collaboration to ensure children’s right are respected so they can grow responsibly.
On her part, Deputy Speaker CNAG, Hon Adama Demba, called on stakholders to invest more in the advancement of the right of children.
She equally called on the media to help in creating awareness so that children will know their right and responsibility to fully participate and contribute their quota to national development.
Lamin Kebbeh, from the Gambia Police Force Gender and Child Welfare Unit, said the unit is committed to fighting any violation visited on children in the country.
“We have hotlines, established hotlines to report any form of violation or violence against children which will help us protect the right of every children.”
Nuha Jatta, a representative of UNICEF, expressed their resolve to support any initiative that seeks to promote the participation and upholding the right of the children.
