Mr. Sall’s surprise remarks came amid uncertainties surrounding his future as president on whether he would bid for another term in the 25 February 2024 Presidential election. This decision followed longstanding rumour that he was going to violate the country’s Constitution.
“I will not contest in the next year’s election,” he said. “I receive many calls from 510 mayors, opinion leaders and the diaspora, but I will not run for the presidency.”
He said that it’s a personal decision despite claiming to have the right and requests from his supporters.
