Levity of Zion presents items to needy families

Levity of Zion, a United Kingdom based-charity over the weekend presented food, pairs of shoes, toys, stationeries and clothing to needy households at a presentation held at YCMA conference hall in Kanifing.

The UK charity in the past has been supporting communities providing medical support to health facilities, education and social development initiatives.

The charity also conducted free medical checkup for the needy Gambians.

Nubia Lindsay, director for Levity of Zion, explained the rationale behind the support, noting that the gesture was aimed at providing materials to needy families in The Gambia to help improve their well-being.

"The gesture aimed to provide essential items to the needy families to improve their well-being. This is for them to know they are not alone." she said.

The gesture, she added, is part of the organization's efforts to complement government’s efforts in providing the much-needed support to the citizenry.

"I feel so good in supporting people because I see the happiness in them," she said.

Lindsay commended staff and partners of Levity of Zion for the support, adding that their hard work and generosity have been recognized and well appreciated.

She thus advised the beneficiaries to make best use of the donated items, while assuring her organization continuous support to the poor on various aspects.

"I want to assure them that they are not alone and we will continue our support them," she said.

Sheriff Kejera, deputy chairperson for Levity of Zion, said the organization is looking forward to getting livelihood support for the needy as well as providing free medical checkup.

"Previously, we were supporting victims of the former regime, but that now we extend it to the general public. Now, we are also supporting many families with clothes, foodstuffs and educational support. "

Kijera revealed that they are also supporting the health sector by providing medical items to public health facilities.

This gesture, he said, has enabled the organization to interact with the locals so as to know more about their needs and concerns.

 Sangmary Sambou, a beneficiary expressed delight in receiving such an important gesture for his family.

"Initially, I thought the items were for sold but I realized that it for gift."
