The training held at Atlantic Hotel in Banjul brought together DistrictTribunal members across the country and their scribes. The training kickstarts what will be a nationwide training for District Tribunal members andscribes.
The training is centered on the techniques of judgment writing, records ofproceedings and the various jurisdictions of the Tribunals.
His Lordship, the Honorable Chief Justice of The Gambia Hassan B. Jallow emphasised that the training would be decentralised to reach all members of tribunals across the country.
The Head of Governance at the Ministry of Lands and Regional Government David Gomez emphasised the significance of the training towards enhancedservice delivery.
The District Chiefs took turns to weigh in on their challenges, citing inadequateremunerations, understanding of proceedings and poorinfrastructure. They called on authorities to strengthen and emphasise their judicial authority.
Reacting to these concerns, the Honorable Chief Justice acknowledged thechallenges facing the tribunals.
He assured them of his resolve to work onenhancing their infrastructural challenges. He stated that he hoped a newconstitution will have the chiefs under the purview of the Judiciary to be able to cater for their needs more adequately and consistently.
