The students who were exposed to Graphic Design and Digital Marketing presented their projects on various topics that are aligned with their field work to prepare them for the job market.
Eleman S. Kah, IIHT Centre Manager explained that his institution has been in the country since 2018 and started operations in 2019. He added that since its inception, the school has been determined to complement the efforts of the government in providing quality, affordable and life-empowering ICT skills.
Mr. Kah continued that over the years, they have graduated over 2500 students in various ICT disciplines, adding that about 70 to 80% of their students have secured jobs.
"When this class was assigned to our talented lecturer, Njagga Sowe, we knew it was going to be a challenge as some students had little or no knowledge about Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and SEO but in nine months, the newbies have become professionals. I believe some of them have already started the benefits of their studies," he said.
Beyond the technical skills, Manager Kah reiterated that the students have embraced the character of collaboration, critical thinking, and adaptability. He further highlighted that in the ever-evolving landscape of multimedia, it is not about mastering the tools but understanding trends, connecting the audiences and creating meaningful and impactful designs and marketing strategies.
Njagga Sowe, IIHT Multimedia Lecturer told this medium that the presentation is a milestone looking at the scope of multimedia in The Gambia. He added that there are not many institutions built for such training, thus some have to travel to Senegal to learn the skills.
Dwelling on his expectations for the students, he said: " I am confident because some of the students have started earning money for their work. Skills are important for everyone and I advise everyone to acquire knowledge."
Amie Cham, an IIHT Multimedia student, explained the struggles they went through before making it to the presentation. She underscored that students supported each other during the whole process of the study.
"We were one big family and we do help each other when someone is in need. When I was enrolling in the school, I did not know anything about IT but now I have learned a lot that would help me in my endeavors," she added.
