The Great Green Wall Frontline Gambia has graduated 25 entrepreneurs from the North Bank Region, equipping them with vital business skills and seed funding to strengthen local agriculture and youth livelihoods.

The programme, part of a wider continental initiative, seeks to restore degraded land, promote sustainable practices, and empower communities through innovation and enterprise.

The graduation ceremony, held in Kerewan, North Bank Region, was attended by local dignitaries including the District Chief, the Alkalo, and the Deputy Governor. The event underscored the Great Green Wall Frontline Gambia’s commitment to boosting agriculture and creating opportunities for young people.

Country Director Maimuna Jabbie celebrated the achievements of the 25 graduates, describing the incubator programme as a platform for equipping entrepreneurs with practical business skills, access to markets, and financial support. Each graduate received D50,000 in start-up funding to launch or expand their ventures.

She emphasised that the initiative aims to foster inclusive economic growth, with plans to involve disability groups in future cohorts. “This programme is about building resilience, creating opportunities, and ensuring no one is left behind,” she stated.

Deputy Governor Dembo Singhateh highlighted the importance of monitoring projects to ensure they align with regional development priorities. “The Great Green Wall Frontline Gambia’s initiative is part of broader efforts to boost agriculture and livelihoods,” he said.

Alhagie K. Saho, Vice Chairman of Kerewan Area Council, praised the second cohort of agro-entrepreneurs, stressing the council’s commitment to supporting grassroots innovation.
