Isatou Joof, GRCS Deputy Disaster Management Coordinator gave an overview of their 2022 operations, stating that as part of their mandate to provide humanitarian assistance they rendered support to flood and other victims during the year under review.
She pointed out that they provided cash support, psychosocial support, provision of bed sheets, purification of stagnant waters, sensitisation, provision of nationwide free healthcare services among others, to those in need.
She thanked the Government of The Gambia for creating an enabling environment for them to implement their humanitarian services. She also thanked the Diaspora, United States Government, IFRC and all their partners for their support in ensuring they assisted seven hundred and fifty seven households.
Alieu Badara Njie, QMoney Financial Service Provider agent expressed their readiness to continue working with The Gambia Red Cross Society, saying they have felt the impact of their humanitarian services to Gambians.
Jallifelly Manneh, a beneficiary of GRCS’s cash support said he lost most of his properties during a disaster, adding that his family members also sustained injuries while trying to recover some of their belongings.
He thanked The Gambia Red Cross Society for their timely intervention which he said helped him not only rebuild his house but also purchase necessary food and non-food items.
He appealed to partners to continue supporting The Gambia Red Cross Society in improving their humanitarian services.
Alasan Senghore, Secretary General of The Gambia Red Cross Society described the day as a day of reflection and accountability in their service deliver to the Gambians.
