Sey reelected PE Association president

Incumbent President of The Gambia Physical Education (PE) Association, Alassan Sey was reelected unopposed at the association’s delayed congress held at Abuko Upper Basic School Hall last Wednesday.

The same trend continued for the positions of 1st Vice President, Secretary General, Public Relation Officer (PRO), Program Manager and Treasurer.

The contested positions were five - 2nd Vice President, Assistant Secretary General, Assistant PRO and newly introduced Auditor and Training and Development Officer positions.

The congress brought together delegates drawn from across the country to assess and choose leadersto steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.

The event was graced by Abdoulie Bojang, Desk Officer for Wrestling at the National Sports Council, Saikou Sohna of the Conference of Principals, Lamin A. Jammeh from The Gambia Senior Secondary School Sports Association, Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education among others.

Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in his remarks cited the importance of the level of contribution made by the association through work done by PE teachers in nurturing raw talents. He added that this was manifested during the recently concluded Pan-African 8-team CAF U-15 tournament in Cape VerdewhereThe Gambia won silver medal.

"I recall facilitating the documents of the kids who made the nation proud in the recently concluded CAF U-15 tournament knowing the crucial role physical exercise plays in the intelligence of the human brain. I urge you to value the subject because it is important as any other subject," he stated.

PS Mendy also noted the inspiring role female PE teachers are playing.

He cited Sadio Mane and Samuel Eto'oas examples of athletes who are changing lives of so many people through sports.

A host of other speakers highlighted the significance of improving the PE subject at schools as well as the need for financial support, facilities and materials for PE sessions to meet to standard requirements at West Africa Examination Council level.

The newly elected executive members to steer the affairs of the association for the next 4 years are as follows: Alassan Sey as President, Demba Kandeh as 1st Vice President, Mariama Suso as 2nd Vice President, Lamin Danso as Secretary General, Saidou O. Jeng as Assistant Secretary General, Alieu Mboob as Public Relation Officer, Mariama Faye as Assistant PRO, Fatou Colley as Treasurer, Abdou Aziz Mendy as Auditor, Javis Turner as Program Manager, and Ismaila Jaiteh as Training and Development Officer.
