He said in that regard, they appealed to individuals and philanthropists to extend their benevolent hands to the public health services.
He made these remarks in an interview with The Point following the receipt of a digital x-ray machine worth 18,000 Euros (equivalent to over one million dalasis) by Wilde Ganzen Foundation, a Dutch Non Governmental Organisation and one Carla of SKB4-Gambia from the Netherlands.
He revealed that the availability of the digital X-Ray machine will help them in maintaining the quality of services rendered in the hospital.
CEO Drammeh stated that “we also want to appeal to individuals, NGOs to lend a hand to our hospital, because government cannot do it all. Government health services is actually meant for the poor, for those who cannot afford the services.”
He advanced that “government cannot increase the price because when they do, it is the patients who are going to die and government do not want to see patients die just because they cannot afford a service fee.”
He noted that this is why the government goes the extra mile to subsidise the charges for people (patients) so that they can afford and get what they are supposed to have.
“In so doing, government also get tight up and cannot afford everything that is why we always appeal to philanthropists and individuals to lend their hands to the public health services.”
“You can actually work up to your retirement without going to the police station because you have nothing to do with the police, but you cannot go up to your retirement without going to the hospital,” he said.
He concluded that health is for everyone and it should be everybody’s responsibility, adding that one must visit the health service in one way or another.
