Samba Faal, Member of Gambia Democratic Congress and a native of Sabah Sanjal has warned the country against total dependence on imported foods for survival, saying imported foods cause a lot of diseases.

“There was hunger in the country during World War II because Burma did not cultivate rice and if we are not mindful such can happen again because 90% of what we consume in the country is imported,” he said.

"We must focus on Agriculture,” he stated. We  must find a way to empower local farmers.

"Government must reduce the price of fertilizer for farmers,” he added while appealing to Government to cut down travels, office furniture, fuel, retreats, diplomatic missions and inject the cash in subvention to farmers to have access to fertilizer.

"We must consume locally to be healthy, otherwise we will continue to be sick. Imagine almost everyone knows someone who is either diabetic or has high blood pressure,” he divulged.
