The event also seeks to reward high achievers in the country’s education sector and encourage others to do more in their educational pursuit.
At the event, Ebrima Sisawo, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE) on behalf of the Minister, underscored the importance of the day, saying ‘today we gather here to recognise and celebrate high achievement in education in our schools.
“Despites the challenges, it is hard to note that our education delivery system continues to produce high achievers’ year-in, year-out. I want to thank the awardees who have been recognised today with the best performances in WAEC, and this has led to a significant increase in the number of classrooms in our upper and senior secondary schools throughout the country.”
For his part, Pa Samba Baldeh, WAEC head of National Office, reminded that event is to celebrate high achievement in ‘our assessment and validation processes for WAEC.;
The national and international awards, he added, were instituted by the Council Board of Trustees to recognise the outstanding performances and to motivate all candidates sitting for the council’s examination.
“The national awards are executed by the national offices in each member country and the Banjul Office is here to celebrate the fourth edition of the national award ceremony for WAEC.”
The objective of the award, he went on, is to recognise excellence in our education system as well as to encourage students to work hard for that excellence.
