Speaking at the event, EFSTH Chief Medical Director Dr. Mustapha Bittaye described the anniversary as a reflection of the hospital’s continued commitment to quality healthcare for children.
He praised the resilience of staff and the support of partners, noting that the unit’s progress demonstrates the impact of coordinated leadership and investment in public healthcare.
Executive Director of Cornerstone Group, Oley Faal Sanyang, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the hospital, saying the initiative was not a one-time intervention but part of a long-term effort to improve child healthcare services.
Providing a clinical overview, Dr. Alagie Baldeh said pediatric surgery services have significantly expanded since the department’s establishment in 2021, leading to an increase in surgical procedures and reducing the need for overseas referrals.
Head of Surgery, Dr. Lamin Ba Jaiteh, noted that many complex pediatric cases previously treated abroad are now being managed successfully at EFSTH.
Chief Matron Horeja Saine also commended nurses and support staff for maintaining quality patient care within the unit.
Despite the achievements, speakers called for additional investment, including the establishment of a dedicated pediatric theatre, intensive care unit and specialised training programmes for pediatric surgeons.
The event concluded with renewed commitment from hospital management and partners to continue strengthening pediatric healthcare services across the country.
